Hospital Radio
hospital and elderly care research
A collaborative Project with Nagoya University to perform a research project titled  ”Connecting Seniors and Patients with Communities – Theory and Practice on Hospital Radio”. The idea of hospital radio includes the idea of an audio broadcasting produced and specifically for the in-patients of hospitals and nursing facilities. The development and catering to the interests of the patients and direct involvement in the creation of programs and topics shows to improve the community and care efforts of the people living in the buildings.
We designed and developed a live streaming system and easy-to-use device for users with any level of technology literacy including an interface that supports patients with physical disabilities such as dexterity issues or visual impairment. We designed the system as an interactive media that allows the radio host to receive real time feedback from listeners while broadcasting. We performed user tests and interviews with radio staff and audiences at a nursing home in Fukui, Japan.
